Borneo Fashion Week promises 3-day extravaganza
KUCHING: The Borneo Fashion Week ( BFW) 2018 from Sept 7- 9 promises a fashion extravaganza which features elaborate exhibitions, runway shows, a spectacular gala night launch and award recognition at Pullman Kuching and Cove 55 here.
A line-up comprising over 30 fashion designers from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and Iran will converge under one roof to showcase and exhibit their creations, said a press release yesterday.
A dedicated fashion exhibition presenting up to 30 exhibitors from the fashion and lifestyle sectors will take centre stage at the event.
The exhibition is set to showcase a diverse array of brands that include ready-to-wear fashion apparels, accessories, textiles, healthcare, ethnic crafts and lifestyle products.
At the core of BFW 2018’s aspiration - ‘ bringing Borneo to the world’ – is its exquisite heritage-inspired fashions, crafts and lifestyle brands with a spotlight on 16 designers helming the exhibition.
“BFW embodies the true cultural diversity of Borneo through the creative talents of emerging and established designers, catapulting them onto a global platform”, BFW founder and organiser Stephanie Alcantara added in the press staement.
On day one (Sept 7), a ready-towear ( RTW) runway show will feature creations from Hayden Ng, Pitnapat Yotinratanachai, Suhaimiey Sahariey and Melvin Shah.
The fashion week’s official launch by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah will take place at an exclusive gala dinner with the guest- of-honour, Toh Puan Ragad Kurdi Taib, the wife of Yang diPertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
The gala night will also showcase traditional musicians and a stand up comedy session with Malaysia’s own Queen of Comedy Kam Poh Poh.
On day two ( Sept 8), three distinct RTW fashion shows - beginning with brands like Najla Shoes followed by a second runway show featuring collections from Rozie Khan Couture and Kumang & Co and ending with designs by De’Mlya Pua and many more.
On day three (Sept 9), a showcase of refined Luxe Resort Wear, Indian ethnic designs from Uvanes Vary and bold creations of WYNKA - at Cove 55 in Santubong.
Six awards will be presented at the fashion event - BFW Emerging Borneo Designer of the Year 2018; BFW Designer of the Year 2018; BFW Designer in the Spotlight 2018; BFW Most Promising Designer 2018; BFW Model of the Year - Male and BFW Model of the Year - Female.
BFW 2018 will also unveil the Limkokwing Fashion Design Scholarship worth more than RM100,000 in keeping with the youth engagement direction.
Designers’ creations will be judged by a panel of fashion specialists comprising Limkokwing University director of corporate communications Datin Nikki Lugun, Bumiputera Designers Association president Mahani Awang and Unimas fashion academician Asrul Asshadi Mohamad Morni.
