Rep suggests KDC erect warning signs near SMK Kapit 2
KAPIT: Kapit District Council ( KDC) should erect road signs depicting children crossing the road to warn motorists to slow down when approaching SMK Kapit 2 along Jalan Bletih here.
Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat made this suggestion after inspecting the recently cleared open ground for school vans to park while waiting for students after school and sending them to school.
“Road safety is our collective responsibility. Upon inspection, I noticed there is no road sign to warn motorists to slow down to give way to children crossing the road. Hereby, I appeal to KDC to erect a signboard to warn the motorists of children crossing the road,” he said.

government offices around, he advised motorists to be courteous, slow down and take extra care when approaching the stretch from the junction of Taman Siew Gin to Taman Cham Ung Hwa to ensure the safety of other road users.
On the open space, he said it is very useful as drivers used to park their vehicles along both sides of the road, blocking and obstructing the smooth flow of traffic during peak hours.
“Now, we advise them to park at this open space away from the road to ensure free flow of traffic. We hope the parent-teacher association of SMK Kapit 2 will advise owners of the vehicles to park at the open space from now on,” he said further.
Earlier this year, Jamit, through his Rural Transformation Programme, allocated funds to construct a cement parking ground in front of the school gate for the convenience of students who ride to school on bikes.
Jamit was accompanied by SMK Kapit 2 principal Azaman Hailie, senior assistant Philip Beginda and Penghulu Sia Shui Poh during the inspection.
