MCIS Insurance celebrates achievements of its agents with centenary of parent firm

- By Karen Bong

KUCHING: MCIS Insurance recently recognised and celebrated the achievements of their top performing life insurance agents throughout the past year at its Annual Agency Awards (AAA) 2018 ceremony held at a leading hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

The annual event, which typically happens in the early part of the year, was moved to later date this year specifically to mark its parent company, South Africa based Sanlam Group’s 100th birthday.

MCIS Insurance Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) Kobus Vlok and Chief Distribution Officer Ragunath Joe Murthy were among the distinguished guests who attended the ceremony.

In his opening address, Kobus reminded all life insurance agents and awards recipients especially, the importance of sustaining the trust placed by valued customers on them and their advice.

“As you make your way up this grand stage for your accolades, my humble request is for you to take pride in the good work that you have done to deserve this recognition,” he said.

Without continued trust of customers, backed by their steadfast parent company, Sanlam, he pointed out that MCIS Insurance both as a company and the authorised representatives would not be able to rise to its present state of strength and continue to be relevant to all Malaysians.

“Our senior life insurance agents as well as new and upcoming personalities who will be gracing the stage tonight, your success and recognition is not one that is yours alone.

“Your achievements are possible because your clients placed their trust upon your advice and the company to help them realise their dreams of a financially secured future,” he said.

Kobus was also proud that their consistent top producers were guided by the philosophy that ‘success is not a destination’ which aligned them well with the company’s core belief.

“It is an enriching journey where every moment of joy and accomplishment only gets amplified as one traverses through the challenging career of a life insurance advisor, helping many Malaysians live a financially protected life,” he pointed out.

MCIS Insurance is an established life insurer, with over six decades of history serving Malaysians of all walks, specifically people from the lower to middle income group.

MCIS Insurance has been a member of the Sanlam Group since June 2014.

Kobus also took the opportunity to express gratitude to thousands of Malaysians who have always chosen MCIS Insurance as their life insurer of choice.

“On the same note, it is a very befitting venue for us to mark the significant local level celebrations for Sanlam 100 - yes, we are truly honoured to be associated with a century- old parent company,” he said.

“It is certainly inspiring to note that Sanlam, from its humble beginnings, dating back to 1918, has always been about an entity that was built to last, and remains committed to the same philosophy today, albeit being a multi-national giant,” he added.

Elaborating, he shared that the devastating after- effects of the Anglo Boer War, which ended in 1902, led to seven men getting together to form an insurance company.

On June 8, 1918, Sanlam was registered to achieve socioeconomic reconstruction specifically for Afrikaners in the country. From this initial focus, the company morphed into a business caring about all South Africans by the end of the 20th century.

It has taken the Group 100 years of doing things properly and doing them for good to get this far.

While its centenary year is a chance to ref lect on years of product and technological innovation, looking after society and creating financial security for all, Sanlam is looking ahead towards the next 100 years – firmly committed to continue creating lasting value and enabling people to live their best lives possible.

“MCIS Insurance has received incredible support from Sanlam in the last four years of our association, and we stand to continue to benefit from the financial security, professionalism and expertise that this association brings,” Kobus emphasised.

MCIS Insurance aspires to grow from strength to strength in the coming years, with specific focus on increasing the total number of authorised life insurance agents to achieve wider market penetration through enhanced customer service and innovative solutions.

The company is on a journey to reposition itself in the market, to attract younger Malaysians who are keen on an entrepreneurial approach to attain career growth and success.

In his concluding remark, Kobus called on their life insurance agents to intensify their fighting spirit in the remaining months of this year to give MCIS Insurance a strong finish.

Meanwhile, the top award recipients among others were Datuk Haji Mohamad Fazil Shafie ( Top Chief Agency Manager - Gross FYP), Baanu Mohan (Top Unit Manager and Top Personal Producer), Agnes Soosai ( Top Marketing Executive) and Tang Han Dan ( Top Rookie).
