From what I gather today, there are some issues which are somewhat normal. Some of the problems faced were perhaps not attended to efficiently (in the past). The opening of the service centre for Bumiputera entrepreneurs will be a starting point for the ministry, and we will make sure our officers are experienced to right the wrong. KUCHING: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development plans to open a service centre here to address issues affecting Bumiputera entrepreneurs in the state.

Its minister Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof said the centre will serve to compile complaints or problems faced by the group, to be analysed and solved.

“From what I gather today, there are some issues which are somewhat normal. Some of the problems faced were perhaps not attended to efficiently (in the past). The opening of the service centre for Bumiputera entrepreneurs will be a starting point for the ministry, and we will make sure our officers are experienced to right the wrong,” he said at a Bumiputera entrepreneur empowerment convention held here yesterday.

The convention, an initiative of the ministry, was attended by some 800 participants who expressed their views and offered ideas to strengthen the development of local Bumiputera entrepreneurs.

Mohd Redzuan also reiterated that the new federal government will tighten procedures on opportunities given to Bumiputera entrepreneurs, and will cancel their contracts if they sell these to others.

“We will cancel the businesses licences for those who are not responsible, and that also includes those ‘Ali Baba’- type that the prime minister himself said are agents of sabotage and traitors to the Bumiputera entrepreneurs.

“It is not an easy thing to do but from how they handle their contracts, we can see the tell-tale signs whether or not they are ‘Ali Baba’, and they will have to prove to us that they are not.”

The event yesterday saw dialogue panels from the minister himself, Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli; Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Small, Medium Enterprise Development who is also the Assistant Minister of E- commerce Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais; and Ministry of Entrepreneur Development secretary- general Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi.

During the convention, Mohd Redzuan also launched a book on the success stories of 50 entrepreneurs under Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB) Sarawak.
