CM: State govt to refund land premium
KUCHING: The Sarawak government will refund land premium for residential lots under the Resettlement Scheme ( SPS) and Village Extension Scheme ( SPK) which are charged more than RM2,500 per lot.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said 7,174 land titles would be affected under these schemes, with refund payment amounting to RM43,477,264.
“Consequent to the announcement I made on May 7 to reduce land premium for all state government SPS and SPK schemes in the state by 50 per cent, the state is committed to ensure that the reduction is duly implemented for the benefits of low-income groups in Sarawak.
“The state government’s decision to reduce the premium by half is to assist the rakyat to mitigate the rising cost of living,” he told a press conference at his office in the State Legislative Assembly

He explained that with effect from May 6, land premium for residential lots under these schemes are charged not more than RM2,500 per lot.
“Any payment made on or before the effective date namely May 6, 2018, that exceeds RM2,500 will be refunded.”
However, he noted that the refund is payable only to the lots belonging to the original land owner; lots transferred to beneficiaries/ holder of Letter of Administration; and lots transferred by way of love and affection among immediate family members.
“The refund of excess land premium shall not apply to lots transferred by sales and purchase.
“For refund, land owners are required to fill and submit their application to the Land and Survey Department no later than Oct 31, 2019,” he said.
He added that the land premium of RM2,500 for each lot under SPS and SPK can be paid in instalment for a period of ten years at RM250 per month.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the state currently has 121 SPS and 197 SPK which do not include new projects.
“Overall, there are 46,968 lots available for these schemes of which we have already allocated 36,219 lots.”
Also present at the press conference were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh and Land and Survey Department director Zaidi Mahdi.
