Reps get pat on the back from their constituen­ts

KAPIT: Residents of Sungai Menuan, Sungai Goh and Batang Rajang under Bukit Goram constituen­cy and Kapit parliament­ary constituen­cy are happywith theperform­anceofthei­r elected representa­tives – Jefferson Jamit Unyat (assemblyma­n) and Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi ( MP).

Tuai Rumah Igau Tuba, speaking on their behalf, commended Jamit and Nanta for looking after their welfare and catering to their needs, especially in building infrastruc­ture projects like jetty, cement walkway and longhouse repairs as well as providing housing assistance and household aid.

“We are satisfied with your services. On behalf of the 19 headmen who are here today, we pledge to give you our undivided support as our leaders and elected representa­tives.

“To Jamit, we pledge our full support to you to defend the Bukit Goram seat in the coming state election.

“We will vote for you because we are confident you will continue to provide good services to us to enhance our living conditions,” he said in his welcoming speech at the ‘leader meet the people’ session at his longhouse recently.

The longhouse chief also thanked Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for announcing the road project from Nanga Menuan to Ulu Menuan when he visited Kapit last year.

While also thanking the chief minister for approving the road project, Nanta announced that it (road) would be funded by the Sarawak government, and constructi­on would start next year.

At the function, Nanta and Jamit announced various government projects and assistance to the longhouses at Sungai Menuan, Sungai Goh and Batang Rajang.

It was also announced that Rumah Igau would be given RM35,000 for the laying of tiles on the longhouse veranda, RM10,000 for its church and RM3,000 for its women bureau.

A sum of RM500 was given to each family from all the 19 longhouses present at the function.
