High Court to hear murder case Sept 19

MIRI: The High Court here has set Sept 19 to hear a case involving a man accused of killing his 52year- old girl friend.

The accused, Abdul Rahim Wahap, 25, from Kampung Piasau Utara here was ordered to be further detained at Miri Central Prison while waiting trial.

He is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Based on the charge sheet, Abdul Rahim allegedly murdered Yeong Musa between 9.38am on Nov 28 and and 3am on Nov 29 last year, at Lutong Bridge here.

In an unrelated case, a foreigner was sentenced to 10 months’ jail by the Sessions Court for overstayin­g after the expiry of her social visit pass.

Judge Steve Ritikos also ordered the accused to be refered to the Immigratio­n Department for deportatio­n process after she has completed her sentence.

Muh Asyikin, from Indonesia, was charged under Section 15 (1) (c) of the Immigratio­n Act 1959/63 (Amended 2002), and punishable under Section 15 (4) of the same Act, which carries a fine up to RM10,000 or a jail term up to five years or both on conviction.

Based on the fact of case, the accused had overstayed in the country after her social visit pass expired on March 10.

She committed the offence at 11.30am on Aug 14 in front of the Criminal Investigat­ion Department office of Marudi Police headquarte­rs.
