Land and Survey to celebrate 100th anniversar­y

KUCHING: The Land and Survey Department will celebrate its 100th anniversar­y this year.

Events organised to mark the occasion are the Perdana Islamic Affairs Forum at Dewan Majma’ Tuanku Abdul Halim Muad’zam Shah on Sept 20 and the anniversar­y dinner themed ‘ 100 Years of Excellence’ at the State Legislativ­e Assembly ( DUN) Complex hall on Dec 15.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan led a courtesy call on Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at his residence yesterday to invite him to attend both events as guest of honour.

Department deputy director Abdullah Julaihi said the theme for the forum – ‘ Land and Life’ – is closely related to their field of duty as well as highlights the importance of the relationsh­ip between humankind, the environmen­t, and quality of life.

He said the forum seeks to explore and share scientific knowledge in providing awareness and understand­ing to the community about the relationsh­ip between land and life from an Islamic perspectiv­e.

The forum panel will comprise Sarawak Mufti Datu Kipli Yassin, University of Malaya Academy of Islamic Studies lecturer Assoc Prof Dr Sharifah Hayaati Syed Ismail, and Abdullah himself, with Mohd Hariri Mohamad Daud as moderator.

Also present during the courtesy call were Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administra­tion and Environmen­t Datu Len Talif Salleh, Land and Survey Sarawak director Zaidi Mahdi, and Ministry of Urban Developmen­t and Natural Resources permanent secretary Wan Lizosman Wan Omar.
