‘Keep up the fight against drugs’

BINTULU: Outgoing district Narcotics Crime Investigat­ion Division head ASP Ismawi Umar has called on his men to continue fighting the drug menace here.

Ismawi, who reported for duty as distric narcotics chief in 2014, is transferri­ng to the state police headquarte­rs in Kuching.

“In 2014, we arrested 418 drug pushers and drug addicts. The number increased to 526 suspects the following year before decreasing to 455 in 2016, and increasing to 575 arrests last year.

“This year has so far been quite challengin­g as it is not as easy to bust drug dealers, due to their ever- changing tactics,” he said prior to handing- over his duties as narcotics chief to ASP Muning Jakung, here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Muning, who was previously Padawan Narcotics Crime Investigat­ion Division chief, said he hopes to continue the good work of his predecesso­r and called for all personnel in the department to work together to rid the division of drugs.
