MIRI: Miri Airport management has rubbished a viral post circulating here which claims private vehicles taking longer than 10 minutes to drop off or pick up passengers would be issued summonses.

Miri Airport manager Zainal Abidin Harun said the hoax post, which also mentions CCTV monitoring to time vehicles, actually fi rst appeared in 2016.

“I wish to inform the public that there is no such regulation at Miri Airport and it is totally untrue as the drop- off for passengers and pick-up for passengers at the specified areas are normal

zones,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Zainal said the irresponsible sharing of the post had confused many members of the public.

He said even Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, as well as an aide for Miri member of parliament Dr Michael Teo had called him to clarify the situation.

On the CCTV system, Zainal stressed it is merely part of security measures for the airport.

He disclosed the airport is in the process of rearranging the present drop- off and pick-up zones as well as the taxi parking area to reduce congestion.

At present, Miri Airport handles around 2,000 passengers on normal days, but this figure increases during peak seasons.
