Insurance Torch Run seeks to raise awareness on importance of protection

-

MIRI: Sibu and Miri would be hosting their respective Insurance Torch Run on Nov 25 this year and Jan 12 next year as part of the national circuit under the umbrella of the National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance and Family Takaful Advisors ( Namlifa).

The Insurance Torch Run kicked off in Langkawi yesterday in conjunction with the national leadership camp on the island, participated by over 100 insurance leaders, said a spokesman.

The run is aimed at creating greater awareness in view of the poor response of Malaysians towards insurance which provides protection for families.

In 2017, Malaysia’s life insurance penetration rate was only 56 per cent while family takaful was at a paltry 14.8 per cent. Bank Negara Malaysia has since set the penetration goal at 75 per cent by 2020.

As a stakeholder in the life insurance and family takaful industry, Namlifa has made significant contributions to the national economy and insurance sector in particular over the years, fulfi lling its responsibility to lead and promote the industry for a better, protected Malaysian society.

All branches are expected to host the run in their respective cities from November onwards, with the grand finale to be held in Kuala Lumpur on April 27 next year at Dataran Merdeka.

The last Kuala Lumpur leg will be jointly orgnanised by Namlifa and International Insurance Cultural Festival ( ICMF) – a counterpart from China which would be leading 3,000 insurance runners from the country.

The national council of Namlifa has appointed council member Rosela Bong as the national chairperson of ‘Run for Insurance’, and Desmond Wong as commander-in- chief to facilitate the run nationwide, said council president KP Lim.

Kuching took the lead in hosting the first event on Dec 3, 2017, attracting some 2,000 runners from all walks of life with great success.
