CYBERJAYA: Limkokwing University recently launched its brand new Merdeka Campaign headlined by the song ‘ Demi Negara’.

The campaign kicked off the National Day celebrations on a high note to rally Malaysians to set a new mindset and narrative about what independence means going into the next chapter of nationhood.

The campaign was launched by Limkokwing University industry empowerment vice- president Dato Raja Aznil Raja Hisham.

It is the brainchild of the university’s founder and president Tan Sri Dato Sri Lim Kok Wing, a rare Malaysian who has worked closely with six of Malaysia’s seven prime ministers to brand the nation and national identity over the last 40 years.

Some of his most iconic campaigns include ‘ Malaysia Inc’, ‘ Made in Malaysia for the World’, ‘ Malaysia Boleh’, ‘ Let’s Make it Great!’ for the 16th Commonwealth Games, ‘ Rakan Muda’, ‘ Malaysia Innovative Nation’, ‘Harimau Malaysia’, and ‘Jalur Gemilang’.

In planning the campaign, Lim brought together a multigenerational and multi- ethnic team to be inclusive so that it would be a campaign that would resonate with everyone.

The campaign ref lects the university’s affection for the nation, dedication, cohesion and globalisation.

“While we wanted to pay homage to our past, we felt it was equally important that we focus on the future and what ‘Merdeka’ means and the future aspirations of the citizens of this country,” said Lim.

Meanwhile, Raja Aznil in his speech said that for 2018, Malaysia underwent an historic change in leadership in the 14th general election.

“In planning the campaign, Tan Sri Lim asked us – the older generation and the younger generation – to work as a team so that we could come up with ideas that would resonate with the nation as it is today.

“This campaign reflects our affection for the nation, dedication, cohesion and globalisation. It ref lects the sense of pride and patriotism this university has for Malaysia, which we have exported to all our campuses around the world where the Malaysian fl ag fl ies high,” he said.

Based on other songs that Limkokwing University has uploaded on its YouTube channel, they expect these videos will hit over two million views before National Day.
