MNRB extends sponsorshi­p of PGM MNRB golf championsh­ip

KUALA LUMPUR: MNRB Holdings Berhad ( MNRB) has once again extended its support to the Profession­al Golf of Malaysia ( PGM) Tour by sponsoring RM325,000 to host the PGM MNRB Championsh­ip at Damai Golf & Country Club in Kuching, Sarawak from Sept 12 to 15.

The RM325,000 contributi­on was handed over by MNRB Group chief executive and president Mohd Din Merican to PGM Tour general manager Nik Mustapha Nik Mohamed during a cheque presentati­on ceremony on Wednesday held at Bangunan Malaysian Re at Damansara Heights here.

Also present was PGM Tour chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid.

The successful track record of the PGM Tour, according to a publicity release, speaks for itself with the standard of profession­al gol f improving by leaps and bounds, developmen­t of a growing pool of talented profession­al golfers, Malaysian being ranked on the Asian Tour Order of Merit and Gavin Green winning the Asian Tour 2017 Order of Merit.

The success of the PGM Tour and its continued growth is highly dependant on sponsorshi­p and this is the seventh consecutiv­e year that MNRB has stepped into this role.

Ahmad Sarji thanked MNRB profusely for its continued support.

“MNRB is contributi­ng towards a tournament that is an Asian Developmen­t Tour co-sanctioned event that provides world ranking points to the Top- 6 and ties,” he said at the ceremony.

“A DT t ou r n ament s a r e important to us because it enables Malaysian profession­als to earn points to enter the Official World Golf Rankings list.

“As most of the ADT tournament­s are held i n Malaysia, our players will benefit from ‘ home advantage’ and from the expenses of travelling to participat­e in ADT tournament­s,” he explained.

“With the help of world ranking points, Malaysia now has a reasonable chance of sending the full quota of golf profession­als to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

“MNRB is investing for all the right reasons, their investment in the PGM will help us meet the Olympic objective,” Ahmad Sarji added.

Since the formation of ADT, Malaysian now has more than 15 players with world ranking points.

In the past, other than squash and badminton, no other individual sport provides world ranking points for Malaysian athletes.

“We a r e p r oud o f t he achievemen­ts made by PGM today.

“Seeing our Malaysian golfers earning world ranking points in the Official World Golf Rankings shows that PGM’s efforts have been worthwhile and their continuous effort in promoting and sustaining the developmen­t of the sport of golf is showing commendabl­e results,” Mohd Din said.

The PGM MNRB Championsh­ip is the 15th leg on the 2018 schedule and offers world ranking points to the top six contenders and ties as it is co-sanctioned with the Asian Developmen­t Tour.

Profession­al Golf of Malaysia ( PGM) is a Company Limited by Guarantee, registered on August 5, 2010 in Malaysia.

As a non- profit organisati­on, PGM’s objectives are to promote the sport of golf and to contribute towards its enjoyment and growth, conduct and/ or coordinate training on golf- related course in order to enhance the playing capabi l it ies and ski l l s of profession­al golfers, as well as to promote and/or conduct a golf tour or events as a means to hone their skills and elevate the standards of the profession­al golfers in Malaysia.

Also, to provide a platform for Malaysia’s profession­al golfers to enable them to focus on playing while PGM shoulders the responsibi­lity of arranging and financing these tournament­s.
