There’s only ‘Camp Anwar’ in Sarawak
KUCHING: PKR presidentelect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has quashed speculations that the party is split into two camps in Sarawak going for the party’s upcoming election, insisting that there is only one camp.
“There is only one camp (in Sarawak), ‘Camp Anwar’,” he told reporters after attending a welcoming dinner at Kuching Hilton yesterday before heading to Sibu to attend another PKR dinner.
It is said that Sarawak PKR is divided into two camps – one for Rafizi Ramli and the other for Datuk Seri Azmin Ali – who are vying for the deputy president post.
On the question of parliamentary seat, to be made vacant for him to contest sometime next week, Anwar said there were two or three seats, but he did not disclose which one.
Anwar did not contest in the May 9 general election as he was still in Sungai Buloh Prison, but was released on May 16 after a full pardon by Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Earlier, in his speech, Anwar, who is prime minister in-waiting said the coming party contest must be clean and free from corruption.
“I want to make sure that the contest is clean and free from corruption, there must be no intimidation... the rights of every member must be respected and they are free to choose the candidates. I will not tolerate any nonsense because the winners and losers will still be in the big PKR family,” he said.
He said PKR was the only political party in the country that has all races as its members, including Chinese, adding that party members must work as a team.
Anwar also urged party members to support Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad while waiting for him (Anwar) to become the next premier.
He said that he himself also support Dr Mahathir to run the country.
