PKR supporters urged to help the oppressed, marginalised
KOTA SAMARAHAN: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) supporters in Sarawak are urged to champion those who have been oppressed or overlooked.
This is to ensure that the party remains strong, reflecting the party’s core principles, said Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar.
“When someone needs help, when there is an issue that needs to be raised, I need all of you to be brave enough to champion them,” she told a gathering outside Markisa Cafe at Unisquare Commercial Centre here yesterday.
Pledging she was here to champion the welfare of Sarawakians and Sabahans, Nurul said the party would not discriminate those entitled to help from the government.
“If you are in that position, you have to help people no matter which party they are from. The government’s money is not your father’s money. Anything that is the treasure and resource of the land, we take care, make sure no waste. Use it to help the poorest among us, lift them up.”
Yesterday’s high tea with Nurul and other candidates for the party’s upcoming election, was an opportunity for her to speak to party supporters in Samarahan, and meet with them in person for the first time after her travel ban to Sarawak was lifted.
Nurul will be defending her position as vice-president in the party’s election.
She also reminded fellow candidates that winning a post wasn’t important; what’s important is fulfilling the mandate given to them.
PKR communication director Fahmi Fadzil, who is also Lembah Pantai MP, was also present at the function.
