Dr Annuar proposes bike racing track in central region

-

SIBU: In the absence of a bike racing track in Sarawak, Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee has proposed for one to be built in the central region.

He was speaking to reporters after flagging off the Subaru Challenge Cup No.3 – Sibu Open Drag Race 2018 at the old airport site here yesterday.

Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit joined Dr Annuar in flagging off the race.

The three-day event is organised by PB Motorsport in collaboration with Nangka Service Centre and Kelab Pemilik 4 x 4 Sibu.

It includes races for motorcars, bikes and 4 x 4 (off-road).

“In view of the overwhelming response from the public especially among the youth, I think it is high time for the state government to build a proper bike racing track for the youth.

“We have none yet in Sarawak, but I will surely try to lobby for one to be built in the central region,” Dr Annuar said.

According to the Nangka assemblyman, who is also Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health, such a facility could prevent youth race illegally on roads.

“This will avoid them getting involved in the unhealthy ‘Mat Rempit’ activities as they have a proper place to carry out their activity.”

Adding on, he reckoned that judging from the big turnout here yesterday, there was a lot of of interest among the youth on such activity.

Meanwhile, event organising chairman Zainudin Abu Talip said the popular event was into its third year.

There are 63 participants in the bike category, 53 for motorcars and 88 for 4 x 4 (offroad).

“Participants are from throughout Sarawak and we have even participants from Brunei,” he revealed.
