Rotarians bring vision to cataract patients

SIBU: A total of 50 cataract patients in Sibu are to receive their Intraocula­r Lenses (IOLs) and to undergo their long needed cataract operation with the generous help from the caring Rotary Club of Sarikei, Rotary Club of Sibu and CIMB Foundation through ‘Rotary Brings Vision To Sibu’ programme.

The programme is specially tailored for the needy cataract patients from the low income group.

According to CIMB Bank Sarikei Branch manager Normah Edueng, the CIMB Foundation has generously contribute­d of RM45,000 for this programme.

She added, the CIMB Foundation has partnered with a few NGOs throughout Malaysia to organise ‘Community Link Programme’ to benefit the society.

“The ‘Gift of Sight’ has been one of the focus areas for the community link programme throughout the years, not only here in Sarawak but also in the other regions of our country,” she said during a symbolic handing over spectacles under the programme at Sibu Hospital yesterday.

Rotary Club District governor for District 3310 Henry Tan handed over the spectacles under the programme to Sibu Hospital director Dr Ngian Hie Ung.

Normah noted that Sarawak and Sabah have the highest number of cataract patients in the country, adding that thousands of Malaysians have benefitted from the programme.
