Sibu Open Drag Race has ‘good tourism potential’

-

SIBU: Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee intends to propose to Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) to include the Sibu Open Drag Race in its calendar of events.

He said this was because the event has good tourism potential as it could lure participants and enthusiasts alike from outside Sibu.

“So, when this group of people come to Sibu – they will bring along their families and this will help excite the local tourism sector.

“I think this is another event that can attract many people to come to Sibu besides Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF), Sibu International BASE Jump and Sibu Big Bike Week.

“On that note, I will bring the event to the attention of SMC. I want to propose to the council to list it as one of the calendar events,” Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health told reporters yesterday.

He was met after jointly flagging off the race with Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit.

The Subaru Challenge Cup No.3 – Sibu Open Drag Race 2018 is being held at the old airport site.

A big crowd braved the rain yesterday to watch the event which is organised by PB Motorsport in collaboration with Nangka Service Centre and Kelab Pemilik 4 x 4 Sibu.

Races for motorcars, bikes and 4 x 4 (off-road) are featured in the three-day event which ends on Sept 10 (Monday).

Also present at the function were event organising chairman Zainudin Abu Talip and Kelab Pemilik 4 x 4 Sibu chairman Kiing Sie Puo.
