MPI holds 25th graduation ceremony

SIBU: Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI) held its 25th graduation ceremony for 242 graduands at Kingwood Hotel here Friday.

Principal Hii King Kai said 234 were diploma and degree graduates while eight received Associatio­n of Chartered Certified Accountant­s (ACCA) qualificat­ion.

“For Diploma in Accounting, this year’s number of 118 is the largest in our history.

“MPI has achieved a major milestone with the most number of students registered for this semester at 1,004,” Hii said.

Hii disclosed that MPI management board is currently renovating Wei Kuok Hall to turn it into a 4 1/2-storey building with new library and more learning space for students.

“MPI has received approval from Malaysia Qualificat­ions Agency (MQA) to start a new Diploma in Taxation, which prepares students to qualify for Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTIM).

“BA (Hons) Finance and Investment and BA(Hons) Logistic Management in collaborat­ion with UCSI University are in the pipe line.”

A Memorandum of Understand­ing (MoU) with Yayasan Kajian and Pembanguna­n Masyarakat (YKPM) to offer Diploma in Social Work has also been signed.

Yesterday, MPI signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with National Early Childhood Interventi­on Council (NECIC) to offer Diploma in Inclusive Education for Early Years.

“Our plan is to roll out these new programmes by 2019,” Hii said.

Also present were Bishop of the Methodist Church in Malaysia Rev Dr Ong Hwai Teik and chairperso­n of the Board of Governors Dr Lu Huong Ying.
