Anwar calls for ‘healthy’ fight in PKR polls, warns against violating regulations

-

SIBU: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president- elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reminded candidates contesting in the election for the party’s top leadership to contest in a healthy manner.

He said a healthy battle in the party polls would further strengthen and safeguard PKR, and warned that there would be no compromise against any candidate found to have violated party regulations.

“The contests (for top leadership positions) needs to be conducted healthily and as one big family. If I receive any serious report, I will not care (against) whoever whether you win or lose, (there will be) no compromise.

“We need to safeguard the party,” he said at a dinner gathering here Saturday, while reminding candidates to avoid being too emotional in their quest to win the election.

Anwar, who won the post of party president uncontested last month, also confirmed that three parliamentary seats have been offered to him to contest in a by- election to pave the way for his return to parliament in next month.

However, he neither revealed the three seats offered nor which constituency he was eyeing.

On the comfortable wins by Pakatan Harapan in the Balakong and Seri Setia by- elections, he said it indicates the people’s confidence in the current administration.

“The wins showed the people’s confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari,” he added.

DAP’s Wong Siew Ki won Balakong by amassing 20,508 votes against MCA’s Tan Chee Tiong, who garnered only 3,975 votes.

As for Seri Setia, PKR’s Halimey Abu Bakar secured 12,690 votes to defeat Dr Halimah Ali of PAS who managed 8,890 votes.

About 2,000 people attended the dinner for Anwar, including Works Minister Baru Bian, Permatang Pauh MP Nurrul Izzah Anwar, Miri MP Dr Michael Teo, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Sarawak chief Fizuan Zaidi, and DAP Sarawak vice- chairman David Wong.
