Good Samaritans give food aid

-

KUCHING: A group of Good Samaritans brought together by voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw recently donated food and other essential items to five needy persons aged 46 to 77 years from Krokong in Bau district.

Lim said the recipients were identified as single mothers and elderly living in poverty and sickness.

He thanked Saberkas Blimbin Krokong chairman James Daim for identifying the recipients from the villages of Bitongan, Bijuray, Blimbin and Bedaun.

James came to Kuching yesterday to accept and deliver the donations to the recipients.

“We have reached out to the poor and needy people in Bau district, thanks to efforts of people like James. The recipients could not come to Kuching to personally collect the donations due to financial and health constraints.

“These donations comprising rice, cooking oil and other edible items, may not seem much but mean a lot to the needy. I understand their predicament, having lived through poverty and hardship when I was younger,” said Lim, a retired marine police personnel now devoted to charity work.

He thanked Fook Lai Construction in MJC Batu Kawa, a Mr Law and family from Foochow Road No 2, Mr Hii and Mr Chin from Matang, and others for their assistance in this latest charity act.

On a related matter, Lim said he can be contacted at 082-248153 or 016- 8070388 for assistance if any poor family needs coffins for the funeral of a departed family member.

He explained that cash donations from Good Samaritans are ‘ parked’ at a coffin shop here to be used upon genuine requests.

So far, such assistance has been rendered to families at Kampung Sadir in Puncak Borneo, Sungai Apong in Kuching, Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog near Siburan, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah, 27th Mile Kuching - Serian Road and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.
