Special operation on reflexology centres detects 318 violations
SIBU: A concurrent special operation by the Sarawak Labour Department across the state saw the inspection of 74 reflexology centres with 318 violations detected.
According to its media statement, the operation involved 44 enforcement officers from all Labour offices including five officers from the department.
Violations recorded were employers’ failure to keep employees personal details ( 61 cases); failure to keep employees’ details on terms and conditions of employment ( 62 cases); failure to keep employees’ details of wages and allowances earned during each wage period ( 53 cases); failure to furnish details of employees’ wages and allowances earned during each wage period ( 54 cases); failure to furnish notice under Section 60A (17 cases); employing non-resident employees without licence (11 cases), failure to pay salary for paid holiday (10 cases) and other violations.
“During this operation, Sarawak Labour Department has issued 64 violation notifications to employers to carry out remedial actions.
“Eleven investigation papers have also been opened to investigate violations under Section 119 of Labour Ordinance ( Sarawak) regarding employing non-resident employees without licence,” it stated.
According to the statement, the operation intended to raise employers’ awareness on legal compliance besides ensuring workers understood their rights under the labour law.
It further disclosed that Sarawak Labour Department started such operations since June this year with 306 workplaces inspected.
“In the previous operations, a total of 1,672 violations were detected, of which 35 had opened investigation papers. The violations detected involved provision under Labour Ordinance ( Sarawak Cap 76), National Wage Consultative Council Act 2011 and Workmen’s Compensation Act 1952,” it said.
