Pebadas, SDNU HQ shuttlers share the spoils
KUCHING: Defending champion Persatuan Badminton Sarawak ( Pebadas) yesterday pocketed a total of RM5200 in cash prizes when its Team 1 and Team 2 appeared in the final of the eighth edition of Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) President Cup 2018 tournament.
Pebadas 2 eventual ly beat Pebadas 1 while Sejalai SDNU Hq and Champion Badminton Hall (CBH) finished joint third.
Each team comprised doubles pairs for above 35, above 45 and Open.
In the women’s doubles SDNU Hq’s Jacqualin Jeinoster and Carbrina Rosery Andrew beat Pamela Bawang Paing and Emelia Lwei Gaong of CBH 1 in the final to take home RM450 and RM300 respectively.
A total of 17 men and 14 women doubles teams took part in the three- day tournament.
SDNU engaged Kelab Badminton Kenyalang ( KBK) to provide technical services.
According to SDNU vice president in charge of the youth Churchill Edward Drem, the main objectives of the event are to foster ties among the Dayak community and promote a healthy lifestyle.
The tournament was declared open by SDNU deputy president Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi on Friday at Sentosa Sports Centre in Jalan Stakan here. Nanta, who is Kapit MP and Gabunagn Parti Sarawak (GPS) secretary-general, presented a government grant of RM10,000 to SDNU and KBK to hold the tournament next year.
Churchi l l commended the organising committee led by Datuk Paduka Anthony Nait for the smooth running of the event.
