RM10,000 carrot for Melaka athletes at Sukma

MELAKA: Melaka athletes who break national records at the 19th Malaysia Games ( Sukma) in Perak will receive an cash incentive of RM10,000 from the state government.

St a t e C ommuni c a t i ons , Multimedia, Youth and Sports Developmen­t C ommi t t e e chairman Kerk Chee Yee, who is also the Melaka contingent chefde-mission, said a RM5,000 cash reward would be given to athletes who break Sukma records.

He said individual athletes would receive incentives of RM5,000 each for a gold medal, RM3,000 for silver and RM1,500 for bronze.

Kerk said for team events involving two to four players, each will be awarded RM2,500 for gold, RM1,500 for silver and RM800 for bronze.

For a team of five and above, each will receive RM1,000 for gold, RM750 for silver and RM500 for bronze.

Kerk added that the incentives were in recognitio­n of the efforts and and sacrifices of the state athletes as well as to help boost their spirits to achieve the best results in the Games.

He said the state government was also offering incentives for coaches whose athletes excel in any competitio­n.

Kerk wil l head the Melaka contingent compri sing 550 officials, coaches and athletes who will compete in all 29 sports at the biennial games to be be held from Sept 12 to 22.

Melaka is targetting more than 18 gold medals in the 19th Sukma and has identified Wushu among the sports with high potential for gold medals. — Bernama
