Deepika talks about slipping into depression, reacts to wedding reports

MUMBAI: Deepika Padukone is one of the few celebritie­s in the industry who is quite outspoken about her fight with depression.

The actress struggled with depression four years ago, and feels that it is an issue that needs to be spoken about.

In fact, she has also been spreading awareness about depression post her experience.

Here's what she said about her battle, and wedding rumours. On depression It was a difficult phase in DP's life and she had no clue about what had changed.

Further, stigma due to lack of awareness about depression made things more difficult for her.

“There was also this feeling that, ‘ Maybe we should not talk about it and keep it hush.' So there was a lack of awareness; there was a lot of stigma,” she recalled.

While Deepika was still struggling with her emotions, it was her mother who noticed the symptoms and took her to a counsellor. This is when things worked out for her.

“I felt completely transparen­t.

It has created so much awareness about my physical well-being. Obviously, that fear of slipping into it again is there. I would never want to experience that again. Deepika Padukone

There was no fear of being judged, and today I think it just made me a much happier person. It made me understand how fragile life is,” she recalled. Deepika’s fear Although Deepika has recovered from depression, she is afraid of slipping into it again. But, she is more aware of her physical and mental health now.

“It has created so much awareness about my physical well-being. Obviously, that fear of slipping into it again is there. I would never want to experience that again,” she said at the event organised by FICCI Ladies Organizati­on. Wedding rumours There are reports that Deepika and Ranveer will be tying the knot in November this year.

But when Deepika was quizzed about it, she refused to answer and called the question ‘insensitiv­e'.

“I am certainly not answering this question... It's an extremely insensitiv­e question to ask at an event like this,” she said.
