Hero’s welcome for football team at Miri Airport
MIRI: Under-16 football players of Miri Football Association (FA) received a hero’s welcome upon arrival at Miri Airport yesterday afternoon.
They were greeted by Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni and Miri FA exco members as well as parents and teachers.
A day earlier, the team did Sarawak and Miri proud when they lifted the 2018 MSL- LAFA Cup held at the Federal Territory of Labuan.
Lukanisman congratulated the Miri FA president Mohamad Saif Jubaidi, the players, coaches and officials for the remarkable achievement in the tournament held in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebration.
“We are very proud of the success of the Miri FA Under 16 team,” he said.
“Although it was only formed within a short period of time, it was still able to beat the team from Victoria Institution Football Club and other notable football teams which have wel l- structured training module systems.
“This was a great opportunity for these young talents to gain more exposure.
“It is hoped that a footbal l development programme for children and youth can be created here to enable our Under-16 team to advance to the senior team.
“This will also allow us to create a stronger and more robust team for Miri FA,” he added.
He observed that there is abundant sports talents in the northern part of the state.
“What we are lacking is a football academy or programme which is good for preparing these talents to be featured in the state team,” he suggested.
Also present at the airport were Miri FA president Mohamad Saif Jubaidi, deputy president Nazri Datuk Ahmad Lai, coaching staff Saufi Zaini, Anuar Ahmad and Arwandy Wasli and team manager Mohd Sepree Brahim.
