Associatio­n to host S’wak e-commerce conference

SIBU: Sarawak ICT Associatio­n and the IT Section of the United Chinese Associatio­n ( UCA) Sibu Division will host the Sarawak E- Commerce Conference 2018 on Nov 8 to create a heightened awareness of the importance of e- commerce.

Organising chairman Wong Ing Ang said the event, to be held at Wisma UCA here will be the first e- commerce conference in Sibu.

He added that they are targeting some 300 participan­ts with students from institutio­ns of higher learning among their target groups.

“One of our target groups is students from institutio­ns of higher learning in e- commerce subject such as University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS), Methodist Pilley Institute ( MPI) and Kolej Laila Taib ( KLT).

“We are grateful to UCTS for the strong support in sending 100 students and lecturers to the event and also becoming our main sponsor of the event.

“Other target groups are businessme­n and persons interested to know more about e- commerce or interested to venture into e- commerce business,” Ing Ang said in a press statement released here yesterday.

Minister of Internatio­nal Trade and E- Commerce and Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh will declare open the conference which will be conducted in English.

Ing Ang said the event from 8am till 5pm will feature seven speakers in various fields of the e- commerce industry.

They will speak on subjects ranging from e- commerce platform, e- commerce sharing economy, logistics, payment gateway, government sector, block chain technology, social media advertisin­g and the success story of e- commerce business.

“Among the objectives are to allow the people of Sarawak, in particular from the central region, to have a greater awareness in e- commerce business, to understand the importance and impact of ecommerce in today’s business and to learn how to run a successful e- commerce business.

“Hopefully, in the near future, we will have some successful ecommerce entreprene­urs in Sibu region,” he said, adding that the conference participan­ts will not be charged any fee.
