-

MARUDI: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau recently led a group to have a look at a potential tourism attraction in Akah region in Long Tebangan, Upper Baram, known by the local Kayans as ‘Sg Makutih’.

The assemblyman was accompanied by longhouse headman TK Juk Emang and more than 20 longhouse folks.

They spent a night at Sg Makutih.

Sg Makutih is about one and a half hours journey by longboat powered by an outboard engine along Sg Akah.

Dennis and his team left Long Tebangan longhouse around 5.00pm and reached Sg Makutih at almost 7pm due to boat problems and heavy rain.

Along the journey, they, including Dennis himself, had to push the boat through the rapid.

While at the ‘Lepau’ (a small hut where they stayed for the night), they had an interesting time and enjoyed themselves to fresh meat of animals just caught.

When asked, Juk said he had in mind to develop the place as a tourism attraction but knew it would be difficult as it is remote.

However, he said the place had attracted many visitors including those from China and other countries.

Dennis said he would work out a plan to develop Sg Makutih as a tourist spot as he had seen for himself the attractiveness and potential of the place.
