KUCHING: Cadets of The Girls’ Brigade here made mooncakes during a recent one- day camp for charity.

The members aged six to nine made the mooncakes at Trinity Methodist Church during the camp organised by The Girls’ Brigade, Kuching Group Council and hosted by The Third Kuching Company, The Girls’ Brigade. Themed ‘ Thanking God and Blessing Others’, the camp was held in connection with the 80th anniversary of The Girls’ Brigade in Malaysia.

A total of 300 boxes of snowskin mooncakes were made and sold to friends, family, and local church members. Third Kuching cadets officer in charge Lt Cindy Chow said the camp and bake sale were organised to help cadets learn the meaning of thanking God and blessing others.

We want to teach the girls that they are very blessed to have food and shelter every day and therefore we should thank God by blessing others as well.

“We want to teach the girls that they are very blessed to have food and shelter every day and therefore we should thank God by blessing others as well.

“We chose Wishesland because of their valiant efforts in helping our local children and we believe that our girls, who are still young, will be able to better understand other children and bless them,” she said.

A total of RM2,800 was raised for Wishesland, a non- profit organisation incorporated by the Kuching and Samarahan Division Cerebral Palsy Association, to help children suffering from the disorder.

“I am elated to see The Girls’ Brigade introduce mooncakemaking techniques to our young generation as the art form and tradition has been getting less and less popular with youngsters nowadays,” said Wishesland president Chi Poh Yung.

The camp involved 74 cadets and 22 officers from Girls’ Brigade companies here. Its programme included ice breaking games and bento lunch preparation. The activities aimed to teach the girls practical life skills and the importance of teamwork and friendship.
