School holds early Malaysia Day celebration

-

MIRI: About 80 pupils of SJK (C) Chin Nam took part in an early Malaysia Day celebration by flying the Jalur Gemilang at the school premises in Niah near here yesterday.

The school management board chairman Penghulu Haw Min Wai who officiated at the event gave the thumbs-up to the organiser for its effort in nurturing love for the country in general and Sarawak in particular among the children.

“Malaysia Day celebrated on Sept 16 is to commemorate the establishment of the Federation of Malaysia.

“Thus, it is important for the school management to organise Malaysia Day celebration at school-level to ensure students particularly those in primary schools will not be confused and know the difference between National Day and Malaysia Day,” Haw said.

In this regard, he supported the school management in organising a series of activities to promote the spirit of patriotism among the students especially during the whole month of independence.

He added flying the Jalur Gemilang in schools is the simplest way for students to display their patriotism towards the country and commemorate the important events which they had learnt from the History subject.

Later, Haw joined the pupils in a mini procession to the bazaar nearby in a show of patriotism.
