Woman among two remanded for suspected theft

MIRI: A woman was among two individual­s ordered by the Magistrate’s Court here on Saturday to be remanded four days for suspicion of stealing a wallet belonging to an air- condition technician.

The suspects, aged 32 and 40 years from Jalan Lopeng, Riam and Bandar Baru Permyjaya, were ordered to undergo the remand at the Miri Central Police Station lock-up in accordance with Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

According to investigat­ing officer Inspector Muhammad Kamel Sulaiman when producing the remand applicatio­n, at 12 noon on Sept 14, the 27-year- old technician lodged a complaint at the Miri Central Police Station that around 11.20am on the same day, he went to an electrical equipment shop located at Bendahara Street here to see his wife.

After placing his motorcycle at the edge of the store, the technician was suddenly approached by a woman who asked about air conditioni­ng.

After the woman went off, he said the technician realised that his wallet that was kept in the motorcycle basket was missing.

He said the technician then saw the woman giving the wallet to a man, after which the technician immediatel­y pursued the woman and managed to apprehend her and asked her to return his wallet.

The woman then contacted the man who took the wallet and when the man gave back the wallet, the technician contacted the police for help.

Acting on informatio­n received, police arrested all the suspects who had surrendere­d to the technician around 11.28am on the same day behind a hotel at Miri Waterfront.

The remand period will expire on Sept 19.
