Fire victims of Rumah Augustine, Gran Limu to receive federal aid

KUCHING: The federal government is expected to distribute some financial aid for the fire victims of Rumah Augustine, Gran Limu in Sri Aman this Friday.

Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen will present the financial aid at Rumah Romeo Serit, Kampung Munggu Demam in Undup, Sri Aman.

Chong, who is also DAP Sarawak and Pakatan Harapan Sarawak chairman, will be meeting the fire victims while officiatin­g at the ministry’s official programme at Rumah Romeo Serit.

“The Pakatan Harapan federal government is ever sensitive to the people’s needs. YB Chong will personally deliver some financial aid to the longhouse folks, to help them in their time of need,” said DAP Sarawak vice chairman Leon Jimat Donald yesterday.

He added that DAP Sarawak delivered aid in the form of over 40 cartons of mineral water, rice and dry food items to the fire victims on Sunday.

Leon, who is also DAP Sri Aman chief, went there with the branch deputy chairman Bennet Empi and Yen Jemeni, Lawrence Temba and Baharudin Karim from PKR.

Gran Limu is located within the Batang Lupar parliament­ary constituen­cy, and is in Lingga state seat.

An estimated 50 people were made homeless when fire razed the 24- door longhouse on Sept 13. The fire is said to have started from one of the kitchens around 2.30pm before spreading to the rest of longhouse.
