BINTULU: Terini Mahli emerged champion in the ‘Menyilem Latik PAVB 2.0’ fishing competition when he caught a fish weighing 2.195kg to beat 410 other avid anglers on Sunday.

He received a cash prize of RM11,000, fishing tackles and a watch.

Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip gave away the prizes.

The competition was organised by Persatuan Anaq Vaie Bintulu ( PAVB) in collaboration with Kelab Belia Sebiew and 40rtyMart in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration.

PAVB president Pandi Suhaili said this second edition of the fishing competition was held following a successful event last year.

“We were quite surprised with the overwhelming response from the anglers in this year’s edition as we recorded the highest number of participants with 411 anglers compared to 330 anglers last year.

“The organising committee has just decided to increase the prize money for the champion in next year’s edition, maybe up to RM15,000 and we hope you will come again and join in,” said Pandi.

Meanwhile, Talib assured his strong support to the activity and hoped PAVB can organise more activities to foster closer rapport and unity among the locals in the future.

In the meantime, he urged the people to keep the river clean by not throwing rubbish especially plastics as it can cause pollution.
