KUCHING: The popularity of open, online and distance education has garnered new attention from the majority of working adults who prefer to pursue their master’s degrees online at their own place and pace, without sacrificing their career and busy lifestyle.

Asia e University (AeU) – a multi-mode university and leader in open, online and distance education – has revolutionised its online programmes with unparalleled flexibility.

Learners can study anytime and anywhere with access to highly interactive online learning materials 24-hours a day as long as they can connect to internet.

AeU has been offering blended and online learning since 2008.

In just 10 years, AeU now has an alumni community of over 16,000 who have graduated from its blended and online programmes.

The academic standards for AeU’s blended and online programmes are equal in value to on- campus education.

AeU’s graduates are employed throughout the world and its degrees are locally and internationally recognised.

Its Online Master of Education (Online MEd) degree programme is innovatively designed to cater to the growing needs of experts in the education industry such as teachers, principals, lecturers and anyone who desire to upgrade their current field of work.

All the coursework, class discussions and projects take place in an online environment.

There are no fixed lectures or seminar times.

The virtual classroom is always open and learners do not need to synchronise their studies with anyone else.

Learners can interact with their facilitators and fellow classmates anytime, anywhere and maximise the use of time to fit their studies their work.

From the moment the programme starts, students will be in constant discussion with their online academic facilitators, receiving regular feedback and continuous support from the online student support team.

Learners will have access to AeU’s engaging online learning platform called myPLS.

This platform supports encourages learners to take control in managing their studies via recorded lectures, self-instructional modules, video and audio podcasts.

Besides an exceptionally wellequipped conventional library, AeU’s digital library also has thousands of online resources including academic books, journals, magazine and news articles.

The Online MEd consists of nine core courses plus two courses and a project paper, selected from one concentration area.

Students can choose one out of 10 concentration areas to specialise in such as Early Childhood Education, Teaching English as a Second Language, Educational Management, Educational Psychology, Instructional Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, Assessment & Evaluation, Science Education, Mathematics Education and Teaching Bahasa Malaysia.

The Online MEd can be completed in an accelerated fashion in as little as 18 months, or spread out over a number of years.

The programme is approved by the Ministry of Education, accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency and recognised by the Public Service Department.

AeU’s qualified online academic facilitators are committed to ensuring an enriching and engaging online learning experience.

Interactions with academic facilitators can be done through live chat, Skype, WhatsApp, Telegram and Facebook.

What the Sabahan family of MEd Graduates have to say.

Seven out of nine in a family from Sabah created history when they graduated with the same Master of Education ( MEd) degrees from AeU – five in 2015 and two in 2016.

It started from Lesiah Sabil, 48, a teacher in SK Bongkud, Ranau and a mother of five who harbored the ambition of becoming a professional educator.

Her only obstacle to realise her dream was that the nearest conventional university is located too far away at 110km in Kota Kinabalu.

When Lesiah learned from friends, teachers and newspaper articles about AeU, she inspired her siblings and brothers-in-law who all enrolled for the same MEd programme in January 2014.

All eight of them are teachers, including Lesiah’s husband Fred P. Jaumis, her sisters Rosline, Rosie, Lily and Jane, and brothers-in-law Edmond St Carolus and Dymson Zeno.

Her eldest brother Juin Sabil is also pursuing AeU’s Bachelor of Education programme.

“Learning together was fun as all siblings share the same teaching passion. We actually gained more in knowledge and skills after attending AeU’s MEd programme,” Lesiah said.

Admission for AeU’s Online MEd is through regular entry or through APEL entry which accepts candidates if they lack the paper qualifications stipulated in the regular entry.

For APEL, candidates are assessed by their prior learning and work experiences to compensate for the lack the regular requirements.

Interested candidates can apply now to grab the Merdeka Special fee of RM8,800 before the offer ends on Sept 28.
