MIRI: Residents of Bandar Baru Permyjaya are in dire need of a new health clinic to reduce congestion at the Tudan Health Clinic.

Chairman of Tudan Health Clinic advisory panel, who is Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the clinic now received about 700 patients each day and could be between 900 and 1,000 during abnormal day like Mondays, including those seeking dental treatment.

He said the clinic could not be expanded to accommodate the growing number of patients due to the lack of land while the remaining spaces are only for parking.

“This particular clinic provides treatment for some 80,000 residents of Tudan, Senadin and Kuala Baram. Patients from Permy Jaya and Pujut also come here for treatment, making it very crowded at times.

“In the peninsula, there is a clinic for every 10 kilometres. I hope the Ministry of Health can consider this proposal for the well-being of the people,” Lee told a press conference at Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) Senadin branch service centre here yesterday.

Earlier, Lee attended a closeddoor meeting with the Tudan Health Clinic advisory committee.

He said Permy Jaya and several new residential areas in the vicinity had a population of about 60,000. He said the proposal would be forwarded to the Sarawak Health Department for its action.

In a related development, he wanted the upgrading of Miri Hospital to be hastened to also overcome the problem of congestion there.

“A total of RM350 million has been approved by the previous government ( Barisan Nasional) under the 11th Malaysia Plan. The present government needs to monitor and see that the project goes smoothly and is completed within the stipulated time.”

Earlier during the meeting, Lee approved a MRP grant for the purchase of four television sets, 46 chairs, a PA system and the repair and maintenance works of theTudan Health Clinic playground.
