World Pharmacists Day event to be held at Plaza Merdeka

-

KUCHING: Sarawak Pharmaceutical Society (SPS) in collaboration with the State Health Department’s Pharmaceutical Services Division of Sarawak and Plaza Merdeka will be organising a World Pharmacists Day event at Plaza Merdeka on Sept 30 from 10am to 10pm.

SPS in a press statement said among the activities to be held during the event are free counselling on medication, blood glucose screenings, blood donations, health exhibition as well as other fun-filled activities for the entire family.

The event will see the participation of pharmacists from both the public and private sectors and as such, members of the public will be able to consult the pharmacists on any queries and concerns about their medications.

The theme for this year’s World Pharmacists Day is ‘Pharmacists Are Your Medicines’ Experts’, which was chosen to emphasise pharmacists as the source of knowledge and advice on medicines not only for the general public but also other health professionals.

“Pharmacists play a pivotal role in ensuring every patient who walks into any pharmacy in any setting will get the right medicine at the right dose and in the most suitable formulation.

“The recognition of pharmacists’ role will hopefully be reflected in future policy making on the regulations of medications in Malaysia,” the statement added.

Apart from highlighting this year’s theme, the event will also focus on antibiotic awareness in view of the alarming increase in antibiotic resistance in Malaysia.
