Fourth place and 21 gold medals with four days to go

SARAWAK captured four more gold, four silver and 10 bronze medals on the eighth day of Sukma XIX in Perak yesterday, bringing their total medal haul to 21 gold, 18 silver and 37 bronze to maintain their fourth place in the medals table (as at 10pm).

Johnny Ling brought in the first gold in the morning’s athletics programme with a new Sukma record of 56.98m in the hammer throw.

Bryson Ting Tiew Lung won the men’s recurve gold in archery at Universiti Teknologi Petronas Field when he defeated Muhd Norhairuln­izam Rosdi of Melaka 6-2 in the fi nal.

Taekwondo also delivered one gold through Audrey Nu Alexander Mula who beat Nur Elmira Zulkiflee of Perak 10-7 in the women’s 62kg fi nal.

The tenpin bowling team added another gold to their collection when Abang Afiq Yazid Abang Azman (1,265), Christophe­r Tiong Lee Siong (1,330) and Brandon Ting Lik How (1,183) topped the men’s trios event with 3,778 pins at Ampang Superbowl.

Kuala Lumpur registered a total score of 3,576 pins for the silver while Penang settled for the bronze with 3,528 pins.

Yesterday, Sarawak’s silver medals were contribute­d by Ngu Ing Biao in the hammer throw, Bertrand Rhodict Lises and Enrique Maccartney Harold in diving men’s synchronis­ed plat form, Eimran Ghaf fary Mohamad Daud in taekwondo men’s 87kg & Above and Bapi Muyat in the men’s 85kg snatch for weightlift­ing.

The bronze contributo­rs were Wilson Berayin Sumbang in men’s 52kg flyweight ( boxing), Enrique Maccartney Harold in the men’s 1m springboar­d ( diving), Hii Puong Wei in men’s backstroke ( swimming), Bapi Muyat in men’s 8 5kg clean and jerk (weightlift­ing), Elia Augustine Peter in the women’s 54- 57kg ( muaythai), Arshelda Hanggi Auther Hardy, Siti Nur Zulaika Mohd Zulkifli and Stephanie Sim Shu Ming in the women’s 25m sports pistol ( shooting), Ma Si Yi in women’s singles (squash), Rebecca John Nedek in women’s 53kg & Below (taekwondo), and Tara Azahari Yeo in women’s 69kg clean and jerk and snatch (weightlift­ing).
