‘Crazy’ star Henry Golding joining ‘Last Christmas’

LONDON: ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ star Henry Golding and British actress Emilia Clarke are to star in the holiday season movie “Last Christmas”.

Golding is already a favourite among Hollywood directors.

He also appears in the justreleased thriller “A Simple Favor”. Golding also has postwar Vietnam drama “Monsoon” in the works.

Not surprisingly, his wife of two years Liv Lo is teasing him on his newfound fame.

“Oh man she doesn’t stop teasing me about it,” Golding said. “Whenever she sees me on my phone, she’s like, ‘Oh you’re still checking to see if you’re still famous?’”

He added that she has been very supportive. “She doesn’t have a classic 9-to- 5 either so she understands the need to have a very sporadic schedule,” he said. “So it’s a learning process for both of us, but I think we’re gonna enjoy the ride, we’re gonna see where this leads.”

In “A Simple Favor”, Golding plays professor Sean Townsend, the husband to Blake Lively’s volatile Emily. When Emily goes missing, Sean strikes up a relationship with her best friend Stephanie, played by Anna Kendrick.

Golding said he enjoyed playing a character so different from good guy Nick Young in “Crazy Rich Asians”.

“Is he a bad guy? Is he a good guy? You don’t know,” he said

of Sean. “So for me that was wonderful to play that, like a mysterious kind of Cary Grant in ‘Suspicion’. Not really knowing did he do it, didn’t he do it, what’s he done? So, yeah, it was great.”

Meanwhile, since breaking through in “Game of Thrones,” receiving three Emmy nominations and six Screen Actors Guild nods as a result, Emilia Clarke has gone on to appear in “Terminator Genisys,” small town romance “Me Before You,” and sci-fi spin- off “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

Now she is boarding a romantic comedy from writers Emma Thompson — yes, she who starred in “Love Actually,” adapted “Sense and Sensibility” and co-wrote “Bridget Jones’ Baby” — and the English performance artiste and playwright Bryony Kimmings.
