PH urged not to accept fomer Umno MPs into its fold

-

KUCHING: Top leaders of Pakatan Harapan (PH) are urged to be vigilant and sensitive to any admission of former Umno MPs into the PH fold.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) national vice women chief Voon Shiak Ni, in making the call, said the people at the grassroots level ‘are not aware of what is going to happen next’.

“But, I wish to register my concern on the possibility of negative impact generated bythe move, which can tear down public confidence in PH should any former Umno MPs be admitted into PH,” she said in a press statement received here yesterday.

She said this in response to the recent political development in Peninsular Malaysia where a few Umno MPs who had quit Umno had approached PH.

“PH is now the government of the day, and people voted for PH to bring about reforms.”

She added that the change of government was a historical event, which ‘ our supporters made it happen’.

She said she had been asked by members of the public whether PH needed former Umno MPs to bring about reforms.

“The anxieties on the ground is beyond our comprehension after those news made headlines on social media.”

She was, however, glad that PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had mentioned that former Umno MPs had to be screened first if they wished to join PKR.

Voon stressed that PH supporters and those at the grassroots level were strictly of the opinion that accepting former Umno members into the PH fold or working with them would not be a popular move.

“Also, any form of cooperation with (Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul) Taib Mahmud in Sarawak will also backfire on PH.

“Our supporters need to come first in every move by the government as we are here today because of them. We owe it to them to bring about reforms and be a caring government,” she said.
