Good Samaritans come to aid of poor family for third time this year

-

KUCHING: A group of Good Samaritans brought together by volunteer social worker Lim Chee Haw has reached out again to an urban poor family at Ellis Road here for the third time this year.

This time, they handed over adult diapers in addition to food items.

They started with food donations in August after being informed of the plight of this family, now headed by matriarch Salamah Abdullah, whose husband Suhaili is paralysed after having a stroke.

Not long after that, they then raised funds to buy a new wheelchair for Suhaili.

“We are very concerned for this family that we come again to help them. The difference in faith and ethnicity did not stop us from rendering help, because we sympathise with their living conditions.

“I lived through hardship and poverty in my younger years, and I understand the predicament they go through and we do what we can to help,” said Lim, a retired Marine Police personnel who is now devoted to doing charity work.

He thanked a Mr Law and family from Foochow Road No. 2, Fook Lai Construction in MJC Batu Kawa, a Mr Hii and Mr Chia from Jalan Matang as well as others for their assistance in this latest charity act. On a related matter, Lim said he can also assist poor families who require coffins for the funeral of a departed family member.

Lim explained that cash donations from Good Samaritans are parked at a coffin shop here to be used whenever a genuine request is received.

So far, such assistance has been rendered to families at Kampung Sadir in Puncak Borneo, Sungai Apong here, Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog near Siburan, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah at Mile 27 of KuchingSerian Road, and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.

“I can be contacted at 082-248153 or 016- 8070388 for this assistance. I do not have any Facebook, WeChat or any other social media account,” Lim added.
