Jamit: Maintain close ties with elected reps
KAPIT: The Chinese community here, especially the Foochows, have been urged to continue their close relationship with their elected representatives to make things happen.
This reminder came from Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat, who said it is essential that they always remain cooperative and be close with himself and Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi for greater progress.
“Through close cooperation, I assure you our continuous support and we can make things happen,” he said.
Jamit reminded them that it was through their trust and confidence in their elected representatives that the Kapit Foochow Association was able to have a new multi-purpose hall and could have funds to run their activities.
“This is a gift from the government. It was through Nanta that the previous ( Barisan Nasional) government allocated RM500,000 to build this two-storey building,” he said at the official opening of the recently- completed Kapit Foochow Association multipurpose hall at Jalan Selirik here on Saturday.
In advising the association to have a committee to manage the building, he praised the Foochow community for their pioneering spirit, resilience and the spirit to venture beyond the norms, enabling them to succeed in business.
“The fruit that you enjoy today is the result of collective effort, farsightedness and broad measures by your leaders working closely with the previous and present committee of this association. Your ambition to build a multipurpose hall materialised because of your close cooperation with the elected people’s representatives’. Thus, I appeal to you to continue to support the government.
“In the 2021 state election, please support the Sarawak government ruled by PBB, SUPP, PRS and PDP under GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak), which are committed to champion the struggle of Sarawak to get back our autonomy,” he said.
He announced Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP) grant of RM100,000 for the association to cement the hall and level the open space for access road and car park.
Attended by about 200 Foochows, the function was also attended by Nanta, Kapit police chief DSP Freddy Bian, heads of other government departments and community leaders.
