Malcolm, Mirabel make it a family affair in KGM Championsh­ip

MIRI: Siblings Malcolm and Mirabel Ting of Miri Golf Club ( KGM) swept the Men and Ladies titles at the 30th KGM Amateur Open Gol f Championsh­ip yesterday.

Finishing behind Malcolm were runner-up Hassan Rahmat also of KGM, Aw Yong Jhie Jgin of Bintulu Golf Club ( KGB) third and Lee Ka Ming of Sarawak Golf Club ( KGS) fourth.

Michelle Cottle (KGB), Sharifah Aiysyah Tijan ( KGM) and Noor Afrina A’in ( KGS) were second, third and fourth in the Ladies event.

KGM president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam remarked on the tournament course.

“There is so much improvemen­t in the club. The green is very special this year because it is green everywhere and you don’t see any spot of brown. It ( KGM) is much nearer to the internatio­nal standard now.

“In fact, the green here is better than any green in the whole of Sarawak,” he said in his official address.

He commended KGM captain Ivan Pui for efforts to enhance the golfing experience for all club members.

“I’m very sure Captain Ivan have ways to make Miri Golf Club better. I can see this club moving nearer and nearer to internatio­nal standard.

“If we continue at this momentum, the facilities here will also continue to improve,” he added.

Malcolm and Mirabel, who are from Miri, were also picked for special mention and carving Miri’s name in golf outside the city.

“They are very special indeed and we are proud to see the brother and sister winning a championsh­ip together,” Chan said.

Also present during the prize giving ceremony yesterday were patron of the Ladies tournament Datin Patinggi Puan Sri Datuk Wira Lorna Enan Muloon Chan and KGM lady captain Marilyn Raja.
