Miri City Council approves management committee for Luak Esplanade beach

-

MIRI: Miri City Council ( MCC) tourist development standing committee will set up a committee for Luak Esplanade beach.

Miri mayor Adam Yii said the beach management committee will look after the cleanliness and maintenance of facilities at the beach.

“As Luak Esplanade beach is the only beach based recreational park under MCC, it is timely for us to have a committee specifically to be in- charge of Luak Esplanade’s beach management.

“I totally support the initiative taken by tourism development standing committee,” Yii said at MCC full council meeting yesterday.

Yii said there is a need for the council to improve the facilities at Luak Esplanade beach as it is a popular place for recreational activities. He added that the council is also planning to organise more tourism water based recreational activities.

On an unrelated matter, he pointed out that the MCC will submit its final proposal on tourism development related projects to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg following the government’s pledge of RM13 million.

“Once the grant is available, the upgrading of Tamu Muhibbah will be our top priority as it is one of the tourist attractions. The council needs to further improve the facilities of the market and the beach,” he said.

Touching on RM3.36 million Wireless Walk upgrading project, he said it is under Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Youth.

“The budget for the wireless walk upgrading project was allocated to Miri Resident and District Office, thus they are the custodian of the project. Once the project fully is completed, it will be handed over to MCC for management purposes,” he added.
