Younger generation must fight corruption, power abuse – Syed Saddiq

-

ARAU: Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the younger generation must be brave enough to fight corruption and abuse of power to transform Malaysia into a superpower within the next 10 to 20 years.

He said they should be allergic to corruption which can destroy a nation.

“I am confident and believe that youths today are better at recognising the effects of corruption as they are more exposed to national issues,” he said in his keynote address at the Anti- Corruption Students’ Convention ( KoMawAR) at Universiti Malaysia Perlis ( UniMAP) here yesterday.

The convention, held for the second time, was attended by about 1,500 students from tertiary institutions in Perlis and Kedah.

Also present were the Deputy Chief Commissioner ( Prevention) of the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission ( MACC) Datuk Shamshun Baharain Mohd Jamil and UniMAP vicechancellor Datuk Prof Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal.

He said the decision by the Pakatan Harapan ( PH) government that all Cabinet members declare their assets and put them on the MACC website was important so that the younger generation could assess the sincerity of the PH government.

In the press conference held later, Syed Saddiq said among the highest cases of corruption was in sports and he wants the ministry to be among the first to be transparent and corruptionfree. — Bernama
