Be more united in supporting GPS — Penguang

MARUDI: Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil hopes to see the rural communitie­s here more united and work together with the Sarawak government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak ( GPS) in the struggle to safeguard their rights as Sarawakian­s which had been eroded over the years.

In this regard, the Marudi assemblyma­n said the rural communitie­s must continue to assist one another towards a common goal of transformi­ng Sarawak into a developed state.

“I would like to remind the rural communitie­s to stand united and work together with the state government and local-based parties by providing support in their fight for our rights as people of the state, which have been eroded over the years.

“Let us unite to develop our own state and safeguard our rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963,” Penguang said when officiatin­g at the UFLO portable water treatment system at Rh Kompeni Agon in Tinjar near here yesterday.

Penguang disclosed that the UFLO portable water treatment system is a Rural Transforma­tion Programme ( RTP) project worth RM250,000 for the longhouse.

At the event, Penguang briefed those in attendance on the gist of the Land Code (Amendment) Bill 2018 and urged them to work with their people’s representa­tives on any matter concerning Native Customary Rights (NCR) land.

A total of RM25,000 in MRP grants was also handed over to the longhouse security and developmen­t committee (JKKK) and women’s bureau.

Penguang also distribute­d MRP grants to the women associatio­n of Rh Anthony Ladi, Bakong ( RM10,000); JKKK Rh Sabelas Tekalong ( RM5,000); Nanga Seridan Tinjar Baram Women’s Bureau ( RM5,000); JKKK Nanga Seridan Tinjar ( RM20,000) and SMK Tinjar parent- teacher associatio­n ( RM25,200).

Among those present at the event were a political secretary to the chief minister Alexander Asing, acting Beluru district officer Marliney Igil, Marudi District Council chairman Edward Mendai, Pemanca Engah Nuga and several other community leaders in Marudi.
