Electrical fault causes service disruption at Tudan Polyclinic

MIRI: Services at the Tudan Polyclinic were disrupted for over an hour yesterday morning when an electrical malfunction affected the patients metering system and the roller shutter system of the registration counter.

Patients, including senior citizens, who came before 7am to get their queue number were frustrated to see the registration machine not working and registration counter closed.

According to a patient, Rochelle Abdullah who was having her blood test at one of the counters, when she arrived at the clinic at about 8am she saw many patients standing near the numbering machine that was not working and piles of medical cards on the registration counter manned by two staff.

She said patients were seen beginning to worry as the number of people seeking treatment and medication kept on increasing, with only those going for blood tests proceeding to the counter without using the numbering system.

She added patients were told that the problem was caused by a faulty electrical connection linking both the metering system and roller shutter of the registration counter.

A patient managed to send photos of the scene at the clinic to Senadin assemblyman Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who immediately asked the clinic about the situation.

He was told that a contractor had carried out maintenance work last Friday, which might have caused the electrical fault, and was informed that the contractor was at the scene to rectify the situation.

Meanwhile, staff of Miri MP Dr Michael Teo’s service centre quickly rushed to the clinic when informed of the matter.
