MBAM to host OSH seminar for construction industry players
KUCHING: The construction industry will play a key role in generating the economic growth for Sarawak as it is rapidly developing since the past few years.
As Sarawak prospers, it would be apt and timely to educate the industry players to emphasise the importance of safety and health in the construction industry.
This is the aim of a two- day seminar, themed “Occupational safety and health in the construction industry and workshop on construction accidents investigation.”
Master Builders Association Malaysia ( MBAM) Safety and Health Committee and MBAM state affiliated member - Sarawak Building and Civil Engineering Contractors Association ( SBCECA) are jointly organising the event on Sept 27 at Imperial Hotel here.
Department of Occupational Safety and Health ( DOSH) Sarawak director Dr Nor Halim Hasan will officiate at the opening ceremony.
Among the papers to be presented during the first day of the seminar are “Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health in Construction Industry – Where We Are Now?” by Department of Occupational Safety and Health ( DOSH) Malaysia, “Creating a Culture of Care” by Abdullah Embong, CEO of MTR Sdn Bhd, “Chief Inspector Special Order to Project Manager on Operations and Safe Management of Tower Crane – A Practical Approach to Compliance” by Major ( R) Leong Yee Keong, general manager, Environment, Safety and Health of Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd, “Sharing of OSH Best Practices in Construction – SHASSIC In IKEA by Michael Yap, Corporate Management Director of Satujaya Sdn Bhd and “Total OSH Protection for Malaysian Workers” by Socso Sarawak.
Day two of the seminar will feature a workshop on Construction Accidents Investigation conducted by former Director of Forensic Engineering Division of DOSH, Abdul Aziz Yahya.
“The workshop will address underlying or root cause to truly understand why an incident occurs, to develop truly effective corrective actions, and to minimise or eliminate serious consequences from similar future incidents,” MBAM said in a statement.
