BDA announces closure of Bintulu Waterfront Promenade

-

BINTULU: The Bintulu Waterfront Promenade is closed to all public activities with immediate effect to facilitate maintenance and restoration works.

Bintulu Development Authority ( BDA) general manager Rodziah Morshidi who announced the closure during a press conference yesterday said it will reassess the popular promenade in six months time to decide if it could be reopened to the public.

However, she said the closure would be extended if they found that the area is still unsafe for public activities.

According to her, the closure is due to major constructions that are on-going along the waterfront and accessibility to the area is limited and public parking spaces are almost non- existent.

“The closure will also enable us to do some maintenance and restoration works on many parts of the waterfront,” said Rodziah.

She thus advised the public to heed all safety warning signs and take extra precautions whenever they are within or near the vicinity of the waterfront.

Rodziah pointed out that rehabilitation of the public facilities needed to be carried out at the waterfront as most parts were damaged due to vandalism and some street lights also needed to be replaced.

“So here again I would like to urge the public to inform the relevant authority if they find any suspicious characters or illegal activities which include theft, vandalism or littering.

“We share the responsibility to keep our Bintulu town safe and clean,” she added.
