3 killed in road crash near Felda Belara

KUALA TERENGGANU: Three youths were killed and another three were seriously injured in a road crash involving two cars on Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu near Felda Belara, Sungai Tong, Tuesday night.

Those killed in the crash, which occurred about 10.25pm, were identified as Che Wan Hasbullah Che Wan Zubaidi, 22, from Kampung Gong Bayur, Besut; Syaifudeen Sobree Abd Rahman, 22, from Tumpat, Kelantan, both students of a skilled training institute, and Mohd Kamarul Zaman Hasdi, 24,from Kampung Gerdung, Hulu Terengganu. All three died at the scene. The injured were Nik Muhamad Arif Mohd Afandi, 22, Tun Mohd Shuhairy Tun Mat Rani, 21, and Suhaimi Mohd Yusof, 23. They were sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here for treatment.

Che Wan Hasbullah, Syaifudeen Sobree and Nik Muhammad Arif were travelling in a Proton Iswara, while Mohd Kamarul Zaman, Tun Mohd Shuhairy and Suhaimi, in a Proton Wira when the crash occurred.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Idris Abd Rafar, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed the road accident.

Kuala Nerus fire and rescue station head Yusmizan Yusman Yusof said the station received a distress call on the accident at 10.48pm Tuesday.

Seventeen firemen in two engines from the station were dispatched to the scene, he said, adding that the firemen took about 40 minutes to remove the victims who were trapped in the vehicles. — Bernama
