MUKAH: The Sarawak government is constantly reaching out to those in the rural areas as a move to close the development gap between the rural and urban populace.

Minister of Welfare, Community, Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the aim is to provide all Sarawakians an environment that is conducive and comfortable for living.

“The state government does have allocations to assist those living in the rural areas,” Fatimah told villagers from Kampung Klid, Dalat during a gathering on Tuesday (Sept 25).

The Dalat assemblywoman said each village would receive development funds under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).

Also present at the gathering was Assistant Minister of Coastal Road Datuk Julaihi Narawi, who was there to discuss the construction of an access road to the village.

He said the proposed road was at the planning stage by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Transportation.

Julaihi said roads help to spur development in the rural areas besides facilitating the provision of electricity and clean water supply to the rural people.

Hence, he called on the people to trust and give the Sarawak government their full cooperation and support.

Kampung Klid is home to 779 villagers who are currently relying on the river as their mode of transportation.
